Andziso Ngobeni: One string at a time

Genesis

For those who know him, you cannot mention the lead guitar without
mentioning his name. Andziso Ngobeni plays a variety of instruments but he is
widely known for being a well-skilled lead guitarist. Originally from Mavambe
village in Malamulele, Andziso is a full-time lead guitarist, bassist and music
producer amongst many things. With his father being a bassist and being
raised in a Christian musical family; music has always been a part of his life. His
older brother taught him how to play his first musical instrument which was
the keyboard. That is where the love for playing musical instruments got
ignited.

Fondly reminiscing on old childhood memories, he remembers a former
primary school teacher, Mr. Frances Tete, who he says played a significant role
in both his walk of faith and music especially as a young boy. Andziso
remembers how Mr. Tete would host prayer services during break-times and
him and his friends would get so excited because they would use those times
as an opportunity to bring their keyboards to school. Playing their musical
instruments was all they wanted to do, and it is those moments that fueled his
desire of wanting to become a professional musician one day. The love and
passion that was easily reflected in his eyes is what made his father buy him
what he regards as the best gift. It was a beautiful acoustic guitar accompanied
by a lesson of three chords, for him it was love at first touch. From that
defining moment until now, his fingers fall in love with every guitar string they
touch.

He is grateful to his parents for always being supportive of his musical journey;
but most of all acknowledges that none of what he is would have been possible
without God. The impressive list of people he has worked with includes Zaza
Mokheti, Amanda Black, Winnie Mashaba and the list goes on. He has also
toured with Aus Tebza, the former bassist of the late South African rapper,
HHP. On recent ventures he has appeared on One Gospel’s Jam sessions
reloaded and is currently working on other projects as well. Something to look
forward to is his upcoming appearance on the popular tv show Afro Cafe‘ in
the coming week.

He is living proof that no matter who you are and where you come from, your
dreams are valid and when you partner with God, He will partner with you in
achieving them.
