God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. [2]So we will not be afraid, even if the earth is shaken and mountains fall into the ocean depths. Psalms 46:1-2
This couple duo has swept us off our feet from the beginning of their careers. They were musicians in their own right before they met but little did they know their voices would gravitate towards each other, to form a sound that would warm our hearts. Planning to work on their own individual projects was always distracted by people asking for the both of them. It was neither Bongi or Collin but both Bongi and Collin. “It looked like everything at that time around us was pushing for us to work together, as if there was this source that was channeling us to work together, “they say. For the couple, working together was something they had planned only for later in their careers, but in this case it’s quite clear God had the last laugh as He had a totally different plan in mind.
They released their first album in 2010 “Makadunyiswe”, which won them a South African Music Award for Best Urban Gospel Album. For people who have been in the industry for as long as they have been, there has always been an influx of love. “It’s humbling and it’s encouraging us to continue with what God has called us to do, working together as husband and wife”, they say.
It’s no doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused a stand-still in many industries and the music industry felt the hit too. The couple attests to how they have seen the faithfulness of God throughout this time. “With us it was hectic because the week the president announced the lockdown, we were supposed to fly out to the US to do a tour the following week “, they said. Bongi says that she is thankful they have a relationship with God because the only thing they could do at that time was to depend on Him. It could have been lockdown on earth but the blessings of God were certainly not on lockdown. A gem was born in the middle of the lockdown when a friend of their’s called them with something in mind.
“He is still God” is that gem birthed during lockdown. It was nominated at the Crown Gospel Music Awards and is available on all major digital streaming platforms. Bongi emphasizes that the song ministered to them and the state that they were in even before it could reach the ears of listeners. “It came as a revival for us”, she says. The music video was definitely one of their highlights when working on the single and they say they saw the hand of God leading the whole process. “Our prayer for this song was that what we’ve seen, the provider that we’ve seen, the restorer that we have seen, the God that we have experienced in the middle of nowhere, be experienced by the next person. Even though they can’t see it yet, when listening to the song, they must immediately have that hope that you know what, He is still God”, they say.
On recent exciting news, there’s an upcoming event Love, Us and friends which they will be hosting on the 5th of December. So, what are you waiting for? Get your tickets and go and have a great time!
