Created to praise

Genesis

They scared of you beloved

Do you see how they shiver

Whenever you speak

God’s child

How they crawl when you waltz

In your crown

And shoulders pushed back

 Oh King ~ Ayanda Maphike

Today we have the beautifully phenomenal Ayanda Maphike. She started writing at the curious age of 9. She shares that she enjoyed literature in school and could not wait for her English class everyday. “now that I think about what I used write, those poems were something else”, she humorously shares. Even though she writes in English, she focuses on praise poetry in Sesotho, “it has been bliss writing and performing in vernacular”.

She shares that her poetry in inspired by the way God created the universe with impeccable detail, “the way God is for us and to us”. She excitedly adds, “I mean everyone in this world has their own fingerprint, isn’t that amazing?”. She adds that God’s influences her poetry in a very powerful way as every piece she writes is about her. “I feel like He holds my hand to ink the pages because after every finished piece I marvel at how beautiful it is”, she says.

She shares some of her most memorable highlights of her art career which include getting an opportunity to be part of the few people chosen to perform on national tv during the month of June in commemoration of June 16 in the year 2019. She adds that performing for thousands of people at church has also been an amazing highlight as the congregants are always blessed and inspired by the pieces she shares.

Besides poetry she is a law student and a proud member of an NGO called BossZane which distributes sanitary towels and toiletries to young ladies, “we let these ladies know how powerful they are and how much God loves and sees them”. She asks that we keep a look out as she plans on recording her first poetry piece soon. Keep up with her on social media, she is Ayanda Maphike on Facebook and @king_ayanda1 on Instagram
