GFWE, Global Forum of Women Entrepreneurs, wants to encourage people to not give up. Yes, unemployment is on the rise, but this is also an opportunity to start your own business. Last month we introduced the GFWE Youth Director, MmaSetshaba Mpete and her new products and this month, we introduce to you another one of the GFWE Directors, Ms. Joy Liunda Pike and share with you her entrepreneurial journey.

Joy was born and raised in the humble town called Bothavile in the Free State, “I was raised by single parent and this has taught me a lot about life including dependency on God, determination and responsibility”. She has worked as an assurance service provider for the government but has always had an interest in entrepreneurship so she sold a couple of products, including beauty products, “despite the versatility, my heart has always been in Interior Décor because that is where my passion is”. Her business, LPP Interiors, was launched in 2016 and has been growing steadily. “As a young girl I had always dreamed of beautiful houses and had great appreciation for beautiful pieces of decorative items. Festive season was the best time of my life because that’s when the opportunity to do the house makeover will be present with the view of preparing for Christmas”, she shares. She later discovered that she could study interior design and so obtained a degree from VEGA Design school in 2015.
“Transformation still remains to be a challenge in the industry that my business operates from, furthermore there is a particular mindset which suggest that residential interior décor is for wealthy people only. So, part of the marketing is to change the narrative in this instance, by intentionally having targeted campaigns to occupants of Townhouses and Apartments. We simply believe that a tranquil and inviting living space can contribute positively to one’s emotional and psychological wellbeing, irrespective of the size of a dwelling place.
Diversification and constant monitoring of the market trends assist to properly position the company to attract clientele irrespective of existing challenges in the industry. Excellent customer services is also critical in order to the narrative”, she shares.
