Today on music Monday we have the amazing Lwazi Khuzwayo. He was born in Nkandla but grew up in Dundee and Newcastle. “Believe it or not but initially I was a dancer and one day it all turned around”, he says. It took a teacher in primary school giving him a solo in a song for him to realize that music was definitely his passion. So, thank you Elsabe’ Mong, that solo opened a whole new world for the young man. He shares that his late teacher, Mr. Walter Butt, was a significant role player in his musical journey, “I’ve never seen someone who believes in me so much. He believed in me more than I believed in myself ” ,he says. He believes that God put Mr. Butt in his life for a reason and he is glad he did not miss the opportunity.
He shares that his family members are his biggest cheerleaders and he is grateful to God for them , “their prayers and love is what has kept me going in this journey that is filled with so many rollercoasters”, he says. He admirably shares that God is his father, protector, strong tower, defender, director and everything in between. He quotes Matthew 6:33 “Seek ye the kingdom of God first and His righteousness and everything shall be added unto you”. God has taught him the importance of seeking Him first before anything. “When God called me, He told me what my purpose is and has also emphasized the unique sound which He has placed within me”, he shares. He adds that the journey has not been easy but because it has been for the glory of God it is worth it and fulfilling.
His latest single Jesus I love you is based on 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away and the new has come”. He co-wrote the song with his friend Lindokuhle Moloi, “It was after intense worship at our church and a friend of mine, Zwe Kunene, started playing a chord progression along with a melody. At that moment God laid a melody and words in my heart”. He only saw Zwe after two months and was so happy to know that Zwe had not forgotten what he was playing on that beautiful day. “We all agreed in the room that this is a song that needs to be heard by people”, he adds. He shares that seeing the vision of the song come to life was his favourite part about working on the song.
He gives the greatest respect to his producer, Lindokuhle Moloi, and the entire team who he believes did an amazing job with the song. “They managed to capture what God had placed in my heart with absolute perfection”, he proudly shares. His prayer is that people have an encounter with God when listening to the song, that they will get what they need from God through worship and that salvation will find those that need it. The song is available on all major digital streaming platforms, so what are you waiting for?
He promises a live DVD recording and CD recording as soon as God permits it. It will all be under his company, LK Music. There will be more shows and vocal workshops in the coming future too. As you can see, this is a force to be reckoned with, so keep your eye on the man.
