The Tshivenda name “Murendeni” translated as “praise Him [God]” is what this Vuwani born young man has been doing. It’s crazy how singing was never his first choice but today he wouldn’t trade it for anything. “When they got instruments at church I wanted to learn to play, but there were others who learnt faster than me so I ended up as a backing vocalist for the worship team until I taught myself how to lead songs”, he says.
He shares that when he was growing in his music journey, he drew inspiration from a group called “Armed for Harvest” which consisted of Takie Ndou, Rophiwa Manyanga and Buda Mudao. He also remembers how Keke’s live recording also played a big role in him sharpening his vocal skills.
Support is a treasure. This treasure is what his parents have been giving him and continue to do so to this day. They have the honour of being the first ones to listen to every project of his and even give him constructive criticism which he holds in high regards as he knows they have his best interest in mind. Speaking of treasure, friendship is included in his treasure box and he goes on to talk about the brotherhood he shares with his friends who also happen to be musicians. Not only have they been a great support system but have worked with him in his projects. The names include the well skilled guitarist, Andziso Ngobeni and the members of the three-piece band, Katlego Makgopa, Hlayisani Shikwambana and Rifuwo Ngobeni.
He shares to us the role that God has played in his life. “God has been my source of hope. Each time I trust in him, he always comes through. In life we go through a lot but when you know God is in control it’s much better”, he confidently says.
On recent exciting news, the young man has released his latest project, a single titled “Uyangithanda”. He says the song was inspired by the love of God for him, even the tough love. He has seen that even the most challenging situations have turned out to be major breakthroughs, and this reaffirms God’s love for him. What he enjoyed the most about working on the project is the spontaneous creativity. “Some parts of the song didn’t even exist before the day of the recording”, he adds. He further says that he hopes the people who listen to the song feel good and joyful and enjoy the quality of the music but most importantly they are assured that God really loves them despite their circumstances. The future is glistening for this young man and he says we should expect a lot from him in the coming future, at his own pace of course!
The single is available on all digital streaming platforms so, what are you waiting for?
