Penelope Sabela: She means business

Genesis

Some fruits are seen in childhood and although at that stage are unripe, they definitely cannot be hidden. This was the case with Penelope ‘Lopie’ Sabela born and raised in Tzaneen, Nkowankowa. From her charismatic personality as a child to getting the idea of selling popcorn on school grounds, it is to easy see that those were glimpses of who she was to become.

“Growing up, I was always the protective sibling. I was a great kid who always enjoyed playing with other kids, reading books, and going to church, that is where I discovered my gift of singing”, she says. It is easy to notice her level of confidence and Lopie has her childhood self to thank for that. She says that she got along with kids so much and thinks it really advanced her confidence and her ability to create relationships. Thanks to her confidence, she uses social media as a platform to share her opinions and that has made her gain popularity on the social media streets. “I believe we all have stories and opinions to share that can help others in a way. So here is the thing, if not me, then who? We have experienced situations in our lives that should be shared,” she passionately says.

Azariah meaning “He that hears the Lord” is the name of her non-profit organization. It started by the heart to donate sanitary pads to girls who couldn’t afford them. “I strongly believe that is was God who bestowed this thought in me, “she says. The organization then proceeded to donate over 40 food parcels during the early stages of the lockdown. “Every time I see someone working hard to create change or make life better for people, I am inspired and honoured to play my part.”

Her love for entrepreneurship stemmed from being raised in a business minded family. The young lady then decided to start her own business in 2018, an online clothing boutique called women.glam and in addition, she has recently ventured into being a car sales-women. The determined young woman says, “my motivation has always been security, hence I always strive to have multiple income streams.”

Lopie acknowledges the role God has played through it all. “I believe that with my own understanding, I can just never make it. I have seen Him move me to greater heights and he continues to guide and protect me each day”, she says.

The future is looking very bright for this young lady and as a varsity student, it is a wonder how she is able to juggle it all. She ends by saying, “start from where you are, start with what you can. Start now, and above everything, do not forget to involve God in everything you do”.
