Psalmist Sefako: Faith it until you make it

Genesis

He is a ball of energy and has a heart for worship. He was born and raised in Limpopo, Polokwane. Who is this you ask? This is none other than, Psalmist Sefako. As a young boy and being raised in the church, he desired to play musical instruments. He would later realise that that burning desire would unleash a gift that would open doors for him. “Seeing those people singing and playing piano at church, triggered the passion for music in me”, he says. That is how he discovered his love and passion for music.

He lovingly talks about the gems that have been a great support system in his career. “My late mom, she was always my supporter. I remember when I did my first demo, that was 2007. She was the first one to buy my CD that’s how she was supporting my music”, he says. He also mentions the likes of the musician, Lucas Maloma who he says has been mentoring him from an early age and has always believed in him, as well as Abraham Mamabolo who has been working with him from 2009 until now.

“My favourite Bible scripture is Isaiah 60 vrs 22 [NLT] The smallest family will become a thousand people, and the tiniest group will become a mighty nation. At the right time, I, the LORD, will make it happen. God works out of time, so when you rely on God, when you try God you just rest because you know that God is never late, his time is always perfect”, he confidently says. In fact, from this scripture he drew inspiration to write his hit song, ska tsheba wa nyatsa.

On recent exciting news, he released his single, I Receive which can be found on all major digital streaming platforms. “I was just dealing with the laziness in the church, because we were taught that the minute you accept Jesus Christ or you are born again everything is easy and free. I was trying to correct that doctrine. As the Bible says, God blesses the work of our hands”, he says. He elaborates that God wants to bless our ideas and plans and therefore we should not just sit and expect everything to fall on our laps without working for it.

He expresses that what he enjoyed the most about working on this single was the love that he received from his supporters which he refers to as his family as well as the musicians he worked with. “The band was very professional, they interpreted the song very well, from the sound, the articulation and the vocals”, he shares. He hopes that after listening to the song people will feel inspired to work. To come up with new fresh ideas and to ask wisdom from God to come up with things that have never been done before.

This man embodies the scripture Proverbs 18:16 [NLT] “A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. We are already enjoying his present and can’t wait to see what the future holds for him.
