Psalmist Sefako is a man of many gifts. The one who’s music will make you dance until the sun goes down. However, this is not all his music can do. This man has recently shown a different side of his music, a kind of music that will get you on your knees and saturated in worship. All this is captured in his new album, The Latter Rain which was recorded live at the Breytenbach Theatre in Pretoria.
“The Latter Rain speaks of the end time revival. What inspired me is what is happening in our country. We find ourselves in a very difficult, painful and frustrating time”, he says. This end time revival is what the album is declaring over our country and its people.
The artist expressed that people had become familiar with his sound and style of writing, therefore for this album, he wanted to branch out of that box. ” I thought to myself, I think it’s high time I show South Africa and the world all of what Psalmist Sefako can do and write”, he excitedly says. Sefako adds that he wanted the album to cater to people of almost all ages and he made sure that that was reflected in the songs. “There are hyms that the older generation will enjoy and there are songs which I intentionally made for the younger generation”, he adds.
The artist also shares that his writing comes from personal encounters and experiences with God, therefore the songs in the album are an overflow of that. ” The experience of writing those songs gave me enough time to have my own personal encounter with God before the world could have their encounter with God through my music. “he says.
The album has received a warm reception since its release and listeners cannot get enough of it. The artist reacts to the influx of love from supporters by saying, “Honestly, it is overwhelming because I was nervous about how people were going to receive it. They are used to a certain sound from me which is different to what is in the album.” The warm reception therefore filled him with great relief and gratitude.
Sefako continously expresses his gratitude towards all those that believe in him and continue to show support to his music. He says, ” may the Lord richly bless them and even in this pandemic, may the Lord see them through.”
