Rumbidzai Shipalane: Mrs Producer

Genesis

Flora Park has always been a habitat for flowers, but not even the experienced soil could identify the roots that carry this peculiar flower by the genus name, Rumbidzai Shipalane.

Unlike many flowers this one thrives on a different diet and we all know what it is, a good dose of music! She pinpoints the time she realised she had a passion for music, ”It was a sudden realisation, it hit me by surprise, ”she says. This was after joining a former church’s worship team and having to dedicate most of her time to music. Apart from singing, something else seemed to spark her interest and that was the black and white keys on the keyboard, they had a gravitational pull on her and she therefore spent most of her time at church also perfecting her newly found skill. Doing this seemed more like pleasure than work and that’s how she knew she had found her passion.

What she loves the most about music is that she gets the opportunity to express herself without right or wrong, there is no manual to follow when it comes to creating. This dame is not only a vocalist and a well-skilled pianist, you can add music producer under her belt. When asked what it was about production that she loved the most she indicated that production is a platform to re-create what your head thinks is good. It has allowed her to take us on a tour in the music haven of her mind and has provided a platform in which she can freely express herself.

Her music journey has allowed her to cross paths with many exceptional musicians who have shaped her idea of what music is, how it should make one feel and what it should sound like and she expresses her gratitude to these particular individuals. Her family has also been a great support structure and can easily be spotted in the front row seats of concerts and shows, and the loudest cheerer of them all being her mother who happens to have an amazing voice as well. It is true what they say, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Rumbidzai further advices young people who want to further their careers in music to first make music for themselves and everything else will fall into place. “If it doesn’t heal you, it won’t heal anybody”, she adds. She also talks about how she remains humble through it all, ” Humility is a skill I acquired through always looking forward to learning something new or doing something better than what I’ve done before. It is easy to be humble when you know there could be a better version of what is”.

On recent exciting news, she has been featured on the single released by Lungelo and the Organ project titled ”With you”. She says working on the project was an interesting experience especially because she had to work from her room studio and not being able to work and communicate in person with the rest of the artists involved in the project made it furthermore interesting. Regardless, “With you”  was executed beautifully and can be found on digital streaming platforms.

She talks about the role God has played in her life and also in her music. “Music without God and Christ is like a book without a plot. There would be nothing or no kind of love to preach and sing about if there was no Christ”, she adds.

She says what people should expect from her in the future is nothing else but Rumbidzai.

Nothing more, nothing less. Her name meaning “Praises” remains a prophecy of the path that was set for her from birth. This young lady is breaking grounds and is definitely living up to her name through her life and her music.
