Shibu Molomo: Ordered Steps

Genesis

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. Psalm 37:23 [NKJV].

The town of Mookgopong also known by its former name, Naboomspruit has produced a gem and its inhabitants can attest to that. Just as it takes years to produce a gem, her journey of preparation also began years ago during her childhood.  “This whole thing started at an early age when I was in primary school. Take it to high school, I joined a clap and tap choir and that’s where everything started to unfold”, she says. She has had a lot of milestones in her career and was then recognised by Dr Winnie Mashaba and got to share a stage with her. Upon that, she was recruited by the music group Worship House where she became one of their lead vocalists and as if it doesn’t get better, she was mentored by renowned Fuba School Of Drama And Visual Arts former Tutor, Mrs Precious Makgabe Manaka after she won the I can Sing music competition.

She talks about the role God has played in her music journey and emphasizes that He keeps playing that role even today. “He literally did the showoffs with me because of how things turned out to be in a short period of time”. This explosion of music notes in that short period of time was of course not without preparation. “I must say He prepared me first. I was busy composing songs but not having a clue if people would listen to them. 2020 was difficult but his grace upon my life and my music was on another level,” she proudly says.

On recent exciting news, Shibu has been nominated at the Crown Gospel Awards for the best traditional gospel music category for her song Modimo ke Sethakga. The song is part of a debut EP also titled Modimo ke Sethakga. “Yooo it feels super good and I still have that feeling even now. That tells me that girl you are working hard and you’ve just been recognized by the biggest awards in the country. Believe you me, it is grace”, she gratefully says.

Shibu wears a coat of many colours. Not only is she a vocalist but a songwriter as well. She shares the special moment in which she gave birth to Modimo ke Sethakga. “When composing this song, I was at a wedding gig doing sound check. While the guys were playing something I started becoming emotional and boom, I found myself singing that beautiful song”, she says. Shibu says she used her life as an inspiration behind the song.

She leaves behind some words of encouragement to upcoming musicians who would also like to leave their mark in the industry. She says, “love what you do, learn to write your own music and have discipline. Have respect, run your own journey and believe in yourself”. Above all she mentions that hard work will open doors for you and with that mouthful mentioned, we hope they are taking notes.

The future for Shibu Molomo is looking bright and she is already reaping the fruits of her hardwork. Modimo ke Sethakga is still going to reach people. I am looking forward to launching it, doing more shows, more gigs, more tours, and more blessings coming our way for the project. In 2021 we still have a long way to introduce this baby to the world”, she says.

For those who’s thumbs were already itching to start voting, unfortunately her crown gospel award category does not need votes. Those nominations keep coming as she has been nominated again at the  Sepedi gospel music awards for Best Sepedi Gospel song and that’s where your votes are needed. You can simply sms (44 to 34850) votes cost only R2 and you vote as many times as you want.

She is a powerhouse, so buckle your seats because Shibu Molomo is still going to blow our minds.
