As a young boy his dreams could be seen glistening through his eager almond shaped eyes. Music is not a distant friend to Emmy, instead the friend that has hung very close to him from childhood.
He grew up in a music family and fondly remembers how they would compose songs on the spot and sing along together. He says, “my older brother was my inspiration growing up and has played the biggest role in my music journey. Following him to his gigs and seeing him in his element inspired me to learn more about music and to pursue my passion”.
The ambitious young man from Lenyenye township outside of Tzaneen is not only a skilled pianist but a sought-after music producer too. Going into music production stemmed from his desire to take his music career to the next level and it has done just that. According to him, it has given him the platform to bring his ideas to life and has challenged him to step out of his comfort zone. As we know, there is no better feeling than seeing what was in your head come to life.
Although he wishes to say his family was fully supportive of his music career from the get-go, that was not the case. Being a family that loves music themselves, they have always wished the best for him in his music journey but initially they had envisioned for him to pursue a more mainstream career. Seeing how well music has worked for him over the years and the passion that is easily noticeable is what made them to warm up to the idea. While holding on to the note of support, when having to thank his biggest cheerleaders he has close friends and family who have played a part, but he says it is often those that he doesn’t know that have also been his greatest cheerleaders. It’s those that attend his shows and those he gets responses from after shows and achievements. Secondly, he adds that he has a strong relationship with the amazing team of musicians that he works with and they too have been his cheerleaders.
Emmy admits that saying only hard work is what has brought him this far would be a lie. He says that there is no way he is where he is today without God. Despite many achievements, knowing that what he has is not only through hard work but the hand of God in his life is what has kept him humble. “I believe that I’ll always go higher by giving the glory to God. He is the one that gave me the gift anyway”. He further encourages those that draw inspiration from him by saying, “be inspired by me but don’t become a duplicate of what I am instead be yourself. Being yourself is what makes us different and exceptional in our own right”.
Upon recent exciting news he is currently busy with a project called Unlocked sessions. It is a live music concert that will be broadcasted live on YouTube every month. It is a platform where all music is recognized and where upcoming and well-established artists will have an intimate session with their global audience. Good news for you, there is an upcoming show this August so head on to JustKeys Productions TV, hit the subscribe button and be notified when it is released.
In conclusion he confidently says, “I know I might not be the best musician in the world, but music is something I have always done and will always do in excellence. It has always been a burning desire for me from a young age and I feel fulfilled each time I do it. Music is my life, I am music”.
