The rich soil of Mpumalanga has yet again produced a gem. Thabo Mngomezulu has music notes imprinted in his DNA. The young man born in Fernie, Mpumalanga, knew music was for him when he was singing in church and saw how his ministry was received. Many lives were awaiting to be changed and he could not withhold the ministry that was going to do just that.
Support is a treasure and during the interview he lovingly names the highly supportive figures engraved in his heart. This includes Apostle Sifiso Mathebula, Apostle Sifiso Phakathi, Cynthia Padi, Lindiwe Zwane, Katleho Monareng, Phathutshedzo Maano and of course, his lovely aunt Sibongile Mngomezulu.
He confidently speaks of the role God has played in his life. “God has saved me even from myself, He has made sure that I have a sound mind, and that I am taken care of”, he says. He says God has been more than just a friend and father, He has also been the firm foundation of his life. Thabo further shares that his music is a compilation of testimonies revealing who God is to him and all He has done for him. “For me there is no music and ministry without God”, he says. While on the musical note, he speaks about his album, The Jesus Call. “The album was inspired by all the times I called on Jesus and he came through hence the name “The Jesus Call”. It’s an album packed with testimonies of how great God is,” he excitedly says.
Not only is this young man an amazing singer but a songwriter as well and says his songwriting, especially for this album, was inspired by the Holy Spirit. “The inspiration of the Holy Spirit gave life to the songs and it clearly showed me that God has given me a message to take to His people” he says. He takes us on a journey of the preparation leading to “The Jesus Call”. It included a lot of planning and rehearsing, late nights, praying and arranging. Although that did put weight on his shoulders, it was lighter to carry because his producer, Kweku Mensah walked the journey with him.
While working on the project, he expresses that what he enjoyed the most was hearing the songs turn out better than he had imagined, “when you write a song, you hear it a certain way but when someone else interprets it, it blows your mind”, he says. His heart also leaped for joy when he saw the people he was working with being blessed by the songs in the process of recording but most importantly seeing Christ manifested in the flesh.
His wish is that all who listen to the album feel encouraged. He emphasizes that he wants them to know that as Christ is so are we in this world and no matter what life throws, we are never without help. The Jesus call is available on all digital streaming platforms so what are you waiting for?
This young man is engraving his footprints in the gospel music industry. We cannot wait to see what the future has for him because, it can be seen glistening from afar.
Amazing work
