Who said Christian drama is not entertaining, intriguing, jaw-dropping and worthy of binge-watching? The new drama in town, ISINQUMO SAMI, translated, “My decision” is sure to keep you at the edge of your seats. The new TV drama by SID MEDIA aims to expose the dual nature of human personalities and explores what we reveal and hide about ourselves and the decisions we make under different circumstances.
The drama features Xolisani Simayi, Thula Khanyile, Katlego Nko, Lerato Moraba and Mangaliso Ngobese. It is premised around a final-year student Pastor and famous radio presenter played by, Xolisani Simayi. The student Pastor has his own skeletons in the closet and is given the task to lead first-year students at the Kingdom University commune. The students come from different backgrounds coupled with different social ills. They don’t approve of his leadership decisions and style so they plot to bring him down. However, in their pursuit to see his life crumble, they fall into bigger traps ultimately leading to the death of one of them.
After visiting different universities in South Africa and interacting with students from different backgrounds, Writer, TV Director and Producer, Sibusio Mthiya discovered that most of the challenges students come across have to do with decision-making. He realised that some students fall into webs they struggle to detangle from because of the decisions they make. “Some have contracted HIV, some participate in bribery & corruption, some are breadwinners & some are struggling with career choices; they have no one to share these stories with,” says Mthiya.
“My goal is to create content that connects me with viewers. I thought- let me create a drama series around these guys’ experience[s] in order to teach fellow students at university and the ones coming to campus who are in matric,” adds the passionate Director.
